I decided when I initially saw this to let it go... leave it alone... forget about it. I told myself "This guy is your hero! I am sure it is just a typo." Tonight I met my teaching idol, the teachers’ teacher, the reason I ever envisioned myself in the classroom, Mr. Ron Clark. He spoke non-stop for an hour an a half running around the room, jumping up and down, most of his speech was done from the front row of chairs which he would run the length of. He did some of the dance routines his students choreographed such as Obama/McCain "You Can Vote However You'd Like" which you may have seen on TV or YouTube. AMAZING. All I could think was I am in the presence of greatness. So afterwards, I am chatting it up with those around me towards the back of the line waiting patiently for my turn. I get to the table, he signs my book and the conversation is as follows. Tiffany: “Thank you so much for visiting WU, you have been such an inspiration, but I would like to tell you something, I checked the Ronclarkacademy.com website and I noticed that Kansas is abbreviated KA instead of KS. You are my hero and you are passionate about education so I knew that you would want to know that this was on a website that is a reflection of you, maybe you should talk to the person that does your site." Kind of a jerk move-I know, but I also thought it was kinda quirky and funny. Ron Clark: "I don't have anything to do with that." Ouch. Fine. Whatever. Except I cannot just let it go. Tiffany: “Well, you are my hero and I knew you wouldn't stand for something like that being on your website." Ron Clark: “Uh-huh.” Tiffany: “Would you mind a picture?” He agreed and that was it. Nice meeting yous and I walked away feeling like the biggest jerk ever. This is not a website that he has no affiliation with; he founded and still teaches at the Ron Clark Academy. Being such a well-known inspirational educator, I thought he would want to know that a web designer made a mistake that he would never accept from one of his students nor do I think that his students would make that mistake. Ron Clark is still an inspiration; however, he is a bit more human in my eyes. I do not feel any remorse about this post, my only regret is not getting a better screen shot. I added the link, I don't know how long it will take for them to update it.
